CUED 2012
FREE Graduate or Undergraduate Class from TTU
Once again, we are excited to be able to offer the topics class “Technology for Teachers” through Tennessee Tech University. These free classes are for one hour graduate or undergraduate college credit. This college credit can also be used for recertification points (15 points for 1 credit hour).
(Note: This course cannot be used for KCS inservice credit)
All Knox County School employees are eligible to take the course. The course is only available fall semester.
Class Information:
Classes will meet on Mondays at Sarah Simpson Professional Development Technology Center or on Thursdays at Pellissippi State, Hardin Valley Campus, depending on the course. Hours are from 4:30 to 6:30. Exact class dates will be determined depending on registration numbers.
You can expect the course to be a fun and easy way to earn a free hour of college credit while you find out more about using available technologies in Knox County Schools. Each class will meet approximately 5 times over throughout the semester, typically every other week.
To register, download and complete the attached forms. FAX to 865-579-8266. Please use the temporary course codes listed below to complete the form where it asks for the session number. We will ensure you are registered in the correct session.
If you have never attended a TTU class you must request a transcript from your last college attended. Everyone must actually enroll in TTU to take the course.
Class topics:
B2B: Back to the Basics! A review of all the basic technology skills needed to survive as an employee of KCS – Beginning with email, calendars, iPads, webpages and word processing, we will explore how to get the most value out of your time when dealing with those pesky computers. This course is for all of you out there that have asked for classes where you won’t feel intimidated! We will take our time and have some fun! Proposed location and day for this class is Pellissippi State, Hardin Valley campus on Thursdays. (Subject to change due to enrollment numbers)

THET: Technology for Highly Effective Teachers/Admins: Learn to use our technology tools productively to help you navigate the mad dash to the top!-Clearing out your inbox, sharing calendars and documents, and having anytime anywhere access to all your important files can be a daunting task. Learn to use all the tips and tricks we know to make your professional life more organized and actually free up some of your time. We will look at managing all the devices in your life from your computer or iPad to your smart phone. Work smarter not harder is the motto for this course. While this class will be lots of fun, it will be challenging! Proposed location and day for this class is Pellissippi State, Hardin Valley campus on Thursdays. IPAD: iPads as Educational Tools: Exploring the use of iPads as a learning tool for students and teachers. Finding fun apps is easy. Finding the right fun app for the right situation can be challenging. Beyond that, finding apps that can be used for lots of different subjects and situations can be tough. Even once you find them, how will you actually use them with your students to improve achievement? While we will begin with basic iPad use, we will move quickly to find and utilize dozens of apps and apptivities! Come prepared to “Play to Learn.” Proposed location and day for this class is Sarah Simpson Professional Development Center on Mondays. (Subject to change due to enrollment numbers)

Optional drop-in registration sessions will be held on the following dates. You can expect to spend no more that 15 minutes. If you have already FAXed your registration, there is no need to attend.
